Susan's Story
Update -- July 2012. I am now divorced and living in the Rehavia neighborhood of Jerusalem. I asked for the divorce and am at peace with my decision. I am still the Bubbie of the 4 grandkids here in Israel. That makes me very happy. If you are ever in Israel, my number is 02-566-1662.
Life
I moved to Israel in 1980. My husband Joshua Goldman (from Boston)
and I live in the Ramot Aleph section of Jerusalem. We were married in 2003. Joshua was a widower with 2 grown children. So now I am the grandmother (Bubbie) of six. We are Orthodox Jews. As a married woman, I cover my head (with hat, scarf, wig...). I just bought a wig -- light brown with blonde highlights, straight and thick hair almost down to my shou...Expand for more
lders. This is the hair I dreamed of in the 60's. I was famous (or infamous) for my curly, thin, hair. A few of the girls of the Haugan '65 class used to put their finger in my ponytail which consisted of one banana-type curl.
Throughout the years I have had a few jobs, basically administrative or secretarial -- in non-profit organizations and incoming tourism. Recently I have been a nanny and love it. I also do volunteer work and am active in the Association of Americans & Canadians in Israel.
I love living in Israel. I feel safer than in most major North American cities. (Hard to believe?)
